Tehran councilors to elect mayor on Sunday

TEHRAN — Tehran city council announced on Tuesday the final shortlist of candidates for mayor and will elect the mayor on Sunday.

Mohammad Ali Afshani, former governor of Fars province and the deputy for civil development of Ministry of Interior, and Samiollah Makarem Hosseini the current caretaker for Tehran Municipality made the shortlist of the candidates, according to Mehr news agency. 

Mohammad-Ebrahim Ansari-Lari, the managing director of Kish Free Zone Organization, Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, Pirouz Hanachi, Secretary of Iran High Council of Urban Development and Architecture, Mahmoud Hosseini, former governor general in Sistan-Baluchestan province, and Hojjatollah Mirzaei deputy for urban development at Tehran Municipality are all the other candidates who either withdrew their candidacy or didn’t secure the councilors vote.
